Crown of Rebirth - Chapter 10
Neru’s heart raced as he watched the guards approach. He knew he had to act fast if he was going to avoid getting caught.
He turned to the innkeeper. “Is there another way out of here?” he asked.
The innkeeper nodded. “There’s a back door, but it’s locked,” he said.
Neru didn’t hesitate. He ran to the back of the inn, searching for the door. He found it quickly and tried the handle. It was locked, just as the innkeeper had said.
He heard the guards getting closer, and his heart sank. He knew he was running out of time.
But then he remembered something. He closed his eyes and concentrated, trying to tap into the power he had felt within himself.
Suddenly, he felt a surge of energy. He pushed his hand against the door, and it flew open with a loud crash.
Neru ran through the door and into the alley behind the inn. He could hear the guards shouting behind him, but he didn’t stop.
He ran as fast as he could, weaving through the alleys and side streets of Tigre. He didn’t know where he was going, but he knew he had to get as far away from the guards as possible.
Finally, he collapsed against a wall, panting and sweating. He looked around, trying to get his bearings. He didn’t recognize anything around him.
He was lost, alone, and on the run.
