Crown of Rebirth - Chapter 3
The next morning, Neru woke up early to prepare for the journey. Vivian had left him some clothes to wear and a small bag with supplies, including a water bottle and some food. He felt weak, but he was determined to push through and make the journey.
Vivian arrived soon after, leading two horses. She helped Neru out of bed and helped him get dressed. “Are you ready for this adventure, Kael?” she asked.
Neru nodded. “I’m ready,” he said, more confidently than he felt.
They mounted the horses and set off, leaving the city behind. Neru felt a sense of relief as they rode away from the guards and the prison cell that had been his home for the past few days. He looked around at the new world he found himself in, marveling at the trees, the mountains, and the open fields.
As they rode, Vivian told him stories about her travels and the different places she had been to. She was an excellent storyteller, and Neru found himself getting lost in her words. He forgot about his past life, the betrayal and the pain, and allowed himself to enjoy the journey.
They rode for several hours before stopping to rest and eat some food. Vivian had brought some bread, cheese, and dried fruit, which they shared. Neru was surprised by how hungry he was. He had forgotten what it felt like to be truly hungry.
As they sat there, Neru looked at Vivian more closely. She seemed kind and trustworthy, and he was starting to feel more comfortable around her. “Vivian,” he said suddenly, breaking the comfortable silence. “Can I ask you a question?”
“Of course,” she said, smiling.
“How did you know I was in that prison cell?” he asked.
Vivian hesitated for a moment before answering. “I have some… connections in the city,” she said finally. “I heard about a new prisoner being brought in, and I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
Neru frowned. “Why would you care about me? You don’t even know me.”
Vivian’s smile faded slightly. “I know what it’s like to be alone in a new world. And… I can tell that you’ve been through something difficult. I want to help if I can.”
Neru nodded, not sure what to say. He was starting to feel grateful for Vivian’s company and her willingness to help him. But he still didn’t know if he could trust her completely.
They continued on their journey, riding through forests and over hills. As they approached the city of Tigre, Neru felt a sense of excitement and trepidation. He had no idea what he would find there, but he was ready to face whatever came his way. And he was grateful to have Vivian by his side.
