Crown of Rebirth - Chapter 7
Neru and Vivian entered the inn, feeling relieved to be out of the crowded marketplace. The inn was dimly lit, with a musty smell that reminded Neru of old books. A few patrons sat at tables, nursing drinks and speaking in hushed tones.
Vivian approached the innkeeper and whispered something in his ear. The innkeeper nodded and motioned for them to follow him.
He led them up a creaky staircase to a small room at the top of the inn. The room was sparsely furnished, with only a small bed and a table. But Neru was grateful for the privacy and safety it offered.
Vivian sat down on the bed, looking at Neru with concern. “What are we going to do?” she asked.
Neru shook his head, feeling overwhelmed. “I don’t know,” he said. “I never thought I would be wanted for treason.”
Vivian put a hand on his shoulder. “We’ll figure something out,” she said. “But for now, we need to lay low and stay out of sight.”
Neru nodded, feeling grateful for Vivian’s reassurance. But even as he tried to relax, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was coming.
