Crown of Rebirth - Chapter 8
As the day wore on, Neru and Vivian remained holed up in their small room. They talked about their pasts and their hopes for the future. Neru told Vivian about his life as a king, and how he had been betrayed by his advisors. He didn’t tell her about his reincarnation, though. He wasn’t sure she would believe him.
Vivian listened with rapt attention, asking questions and offering support. She was a good listener, and Neru felt like he could trust her.
As night fell, they heard a knock on the door. Neru froze, wondering if it was the guards coming to arrest him. But Vivian got up and answered the door.
It was the innkeeper, holding a tray of food. “I thought you might be hungry,” he said, setting the tray down on the table.
Neru and Vivian thanked him gratefully, and he left them alone again. They ate in silence, but Neru could sense the tension in the air.
He knew they couldn’t stay in this room forever. They needed to find a way to clear his name and get out of Tigre before it was too late.
