Life is Hard for an Introvert - Chapter 2
I scrolled through the university’s website and found a list of clubs and organizations. After looking at a few, I found one that caught my attention. It was a club that was focused on social justice issues, and I was really passionate about those issues. I decided to go to their next meeting and see what it was all about.
As I walked into the meeting room, I felt a little intimidated. The room was full of people who all seemed to know each other, and I didn’t know anyone. But I took a deep breath and sat down next to a girl who looked friendly.
“Hi, I’m Lily,” I said, introducing myself.
“Hey, I’m Emily,” she replied with a smile. “Is this your first time at the meeting?”
I nodded. “Yeah, I’m new here. I just moved to the area and thought I’d check it out.”
“Awesome! Well, welcome,” Emily said, patting me on the back. “This club is really cool. We’re all about social justice issues and making a difference on campus.”
As the meeting started, I tried to keep up with everything that was being said. There were a lot of acronyms and terms that I wasn’t familiar with, but everyone else seemed to be following along just fine.
At one point, the club’s president, Mia, asked if anyone had any questions or comments. I hesitated for a moment, but then raised my hand.
“Hi, I’m Lily,” I said. “I was just wondering how someone new like me can get involved and make a difference?”
Mia smiled at me. “Great question, Lily. We’re always looking for new members and fresh perspectives. We have a few events coming up that you could help out with, or you could join one of our committees.”
I nodded, feeling a little more confident. Maybe this club could be a way for me to make more friends and get involved on campus.
After the meeting, Mia came up to me and introduced herself.
“Hey, Lily. I’m Mia, the club president. I wanted to thank you for coming to the meeting and ask if you’d like to grab coffee sometime and chat more about the club?”
I smiled. “That sounds great, Mia. I’d love to.”
As we walked out of the meeting room together, Emily caught up to us.
“Hey, Lily. I was just wondering if you’d like to come to a party my roommates and I are throwing this weekend? We’d love to have you.”
I felt a wave of gratitude wash over me. It felt good to be making new friends and finding my place on campus.
